Well, we returned home from our trip this winter to find the cats had survived, however, Fish did not. The neighbors thoughtfully gave him a salute and flushed him away before we arrived home. Julia a little distraught from it discussed the ordeal with here friend and lo and behold her friend bought her a Fighter Fish for Christmas. We now have Zazu the blue fighter fish....AND Milo her friend's fish that for some reason we are now caring for. I am not sure if we have two fish or we are fish sitting or what?? Thankfully, these fish have been very easy to care for and seem to have survived well.
All of the fish activity around here has made Mike seem as though maybe he was missing something and he should go fish shopping as well. It would be boring to just get another Fighter Fish wouldn't it, yes of course, so Mike thought he would pick out a couple of odd looking Gold Fish. Mike decided he would pick out a Telescope Fish and another sort of less "odd" looking Gold fish. Well, as we bought the fish, the girl asked if we had our tank set up and had water sitting in it, in which we replied "uh, no". At this point the lady nicely pointed out that she then couldn't guarantee the fish and they would be a "Final Sale"! I thought no problem, they are only Gold Fish and we have an aquarium, should be fine, not to mention I left with a ph testing kit, fish ....uh.. toys or little statues, water conditioner, and some kind of ph balancing stuff. We were set! The first hour they looked great! even with the nice AC/DC back ground that Mike thought they should have behind the aquarium. By around hour 4 or 5 they were getting murky and have stayed rather murky, even after I added some more water, checked the ph and talked really nicely to them, and googled how to care for Gold fish and read about them for about an hour (so it seemed). Last night "Bubbles", (with it's huge eyes!) started to swim very fast and rather sideways and floated up rather quickly looking very frantic like he may have a hard time clinging to life. I turned my head and tried not to watch and was sure this morning he would be floating. If the fish weren't quite so large and didn't have such huge eyes this may not be so bad but they really "look" at you!
So, I had a little conversation with Mike as to kind of set him up for the morning and said "you know Mike, sometimes the shock of moving fish make them die in the first week or so and this might happen to your fish, we shouldn't be too surprised if they die and we have to replace them." I thought he may be a little upset and he replies..."okay, can I get bigger fish then?" Apparently not as upset as I thought, of course he is a kid, and male for that fact and things are so much simpler then I guess!
Much to my surprise this morning he is dramatically better, not dead! Hopefully, whatever didn't kill him has made him stronger. The Fish I mean!
